My New Best Friend
What a day! My oldest daughter, A, had her friend N over today and the girls wanted to go shopping. Normally I would love nothing more than to spend a day shopping, especially when the destination is Forever 21 Ginormous, but today I would be shopping with two 12 year olds, a 4 1/2 yo, and a 2 1/2 yo. Not my idea of the perfect situation but I went with it. I got everyone ready, put on my The Perfect Red lipstick and away we went. After a quick lunch with my smokin hot husband we arrived at our destination ready to shop! Fast forward an hour or so, the little kids are getting wild and the big girls haven't found a single thing. We make a few stops in some random stores and then head for the outlets in Cabazon. We hit the usual suspects, Pac Sun, Charlotte Russe, and Papaya. Thankfully the girls found a few things but somehow it was now three and a half hours later. Exhausted, I packed the kids and their treasures in the car and began to leave when all of a sudden I see a spot open up in front of Kate Spade! You know those moments where the clouds open up and that ray of light seems to be shinning down straight from heaven? Well, this was that moment and the light was pointing straight to Kate Spade! I quickly snatched the prime spot, left the kids in the car, (with the air and radio on of course!) and headed in. I was finally in my safe place and had a few quite minutes to relax. My favorite sales girl greeted me right away and commented on how great my lipstick looked and then for the icing on the cake she said "Isn't that our new lipstick?" Of course it was! After a few more compliments, we chatted for a bit and I spent some time fondling jewelry, handbags, scarfs and shoes. Unfortunately I could not stay forever, so I said my goodbyes and headed back to the car with a mental list of things I needed. With my day not yet complete I headed to the grocery store for some last minute items. It was at the grocery store that I met my new best friend. I walk in, Red lipstick perfectly reapplied, and begin to get my items. A few aisles in I look up and coming towards me is the most adorable, stylish, 70ish year old women wearing almost the exact shade of red lipstick! I looked at her and smiled and she gave me a little wink as we passed. Here I am in the infancy of my red lipstick wearing days and there she is a seasoned pro, totally confident in her bold choice of lip color. As I continued shopping I first thought to myself, how embarrassing to be wearing the same lipstick as an old lady. But then I realized here is a woman who has probably been wearing that lipstick for longer than I've been alive and even at her age she is strong, confident, bold and dare I say even a little sexy. It's almost as if it becomes a part of who you are. Like a small peak into your wild side all wrapped up in a shiny red package. As I continue on my adventure I hope I can become that women.
